Our subcontractor for excavation and landscaping has started building the limestone retaining walls that will allow the grade of our yard to closely follow the bottom edge of our vinyl siding. Besides eliminating all but 6" or so of exposed foundation, the retaining walls will add some attractive limestone accents to the yard that will be coordinated with the limestone veneer on the front of our garage and front entrance, and the walls will create a terraced effect that we can fill in with shrubs, bushes, and other landscaping. The photos below show some of the walls completed and a pile of the very heavy limestone blocks that our subcontractor removed from a nearby quarry.
